Bellagio HotelWe visited Las Vegas while on this trip. It was a first for me and I was excited to be seeing a new place on my travels. Though when we got there, I was very underwhelmed. I found it ugly. The place which I know is set in a desert is just not a good look. It is barren apart from the actual strip, which is like walking onto a film set and seeing right behind that cardboard cut out of a street is just painted cement, rubbish and just blah! I was happy to get to the Bellagio which you could tell was luxurious even if a little dated. The reception was so busy the whole thing reminded me of a shopping centre. Luckily we got a lovely lady named Carmen, who made sure we were all checked in and looked after well. The room I really liked, it was spacious, elegant and light and airy, it had a great view of the pool area, and the marble bathroom (with soaking tub) was massive for a hotel. The bed was really comfortable and the mini bar one of the best and most varied I have seen. Everything I could of needs was at my fingertips. The hotel is based right on the strip and it in a great location. So many things are walking distance to it and if not a quick Uber to cab ride gets you there. It also features the incredible 8 acre lake with Bellagio Fountains which are a huge draw card on the strip. Many tourists and alike come to watch the water and music display each night. Operated by the MGM Resorts group (who own many of the hotels/resorts along the strip) the hotel boasts Rooms, Suites and accessible options, entertainment, International restaurants, nightlife and the casino plus much more. It is home to the Cirque du Soleil "O" show. You can join the M Life Rewards to earn points on your spend. The resort has a really great gym and the pool area is beautifully designed with 5 outdoor pools, The Pool cafe and bar offers a really great breakfast which I enjoyed twice. (see pictures) The only thing I didn't like is that people are still able to smoke inside the casino. So to get from the rooms from the reception desk, you had to walk through a smoke filled casino floor. It was horrid especially first thing in the morning after going to gym. Though the casino for people who love to gamble has over 2000 slot machines, and 40 poker tables. I would definitely stay again, if I ever went back to Vegas. And I would recommend it to anyone going. Great place to stay! The Polo Bar- Ralph LaurenWe had the opportunity to go to The Polo Bar by Ralph Lauren while in NYC.
The place has a reputation for being a place where the rich and famous frequent. Glamorous designer created surroundings are mixed with a lively, vibrant energetic vibe when entering the place. We sat at the bar first as we waited for our table booking which was late at 9PM ( Late when you're waking at 4 for an early flight in the morning). The drinks were nice and the staff attentive while we waited. Though we waited a lot. We actually waited an hour and 20 minutes. When we finally got down to the dining area, we were sat by a blonde girl who showed us to basically a breakfast table for two, for the three of us. This said table was also right in the middle of other tables and in a walk way. We felt like we were at an after thought table. It was SO small and uncomfortable, I started hating the experience. A waited started to get out first drinks when we noticed another larger table for 4 come available. We asked to be moved and the waiter was only to happy to make it happen. They started clearing and changing us over. That was whens he blonde woman came sort of barging over telling us we can't change tables. We persisted and the waiter basically told her that we had asked and he had agreed, so they were going to do it. You could tell she didn't like that so she walked off. We then finally got a great table and took a look at the menu. Surprisingly it is is basically an over priced burger bar. With examples such as hotdogs, pigs in a blanket, the polo bar burger and a BLT, I was surprised at the casualness of the menu. For such a 'casual' menu the prices aren't cheap. For a basic hotdog with Sauerkraut, Sweet relish and Mustard on a toasted Brioche bun, equates to $28.64 AUD. The vibe was good though, but after then waiting for our entree for quite a while, we then didn't get our mains till about 11 PM. I was dreading the next days early wake up, So being I couldn't get it off my mind, I just didn't enjoy it. I thought for the money and the hype, it would of been so much nicer, classier and with a lot better service for the dollar. The actual waiters and the sommelier that night were brilliant, the woman that showed us in just ruined the 'welcome' factor. The food was good, but not worth waiting hours for. The drinks were OK, but were probably the only thing keeping us there, by getting us drunk. Would not go back and would not suggest it as a place to go. Much better bars and service elsewhere. Salon de Ning at the Peninsula HotelSalon de Ning is located on the rooftop of the Peninsula Hotel at 700 Fifth Avenue at 55th Street.
The Peninsula is a luxury hotel which is well known around the world. Salon de Ning, is a relatively small rooftop bar. What it misses in size, it makes up for with spectacular views. The drink menu isn't extensive but it does offer some great cocktail, wines and champagnes. It is open 5 PM-1 AM, Monday to Saturday and 5 PM to 12 AM on Sundays. The view is what you come here for and it truly is a beautiful one. There is also a small bar menu for some share plates. Which is great if you are meeting some friends, which its is a great place to so. I would like to see them remove all the chairs on the front terrace though, they are unnecessary and just take up room so it makes it feel even smaller than it is. Everyone is standing outside anyway so there really isn't any use for them. It has a very social vibe and would be ideal for after work drinks. Or just somewhere impressive to take someone. Try to get in early as seats and space is taken very quickly. The Hudson HotelWhile in New York City we stayed at The Hudson located at 358 West 58th Street, just near Columbus Circle it is very well located. Part of the Morgans Hotel Group and Sbe. Designed by Phillippe Starck is a unique, stylish and hop hotel.
Close to the Museum of Arts and Design Central Park and the Time Warner Centre you have so much just footsteps away. Featuring a Library Bar and a Sky Terrace the bar has great spaces for relaxing or meeting friends. Eddie who checked us in was really helpful and gave us some options of bars and things to do in the area. When checking i there was a small stuff up though. We had booked a standard room online before leaving Australia. We then received an email through sbe asking if we would like to upgrade our room, which we immediately took. Though when we arrived and they checked our booking it still had us in the standard room. Now anyone who knows the Hudson knows that the standard room is small. Like very small. After travelling and getting to this amazing city I didn't want to be boxed in. So thankfully Eddie went to ask management who were happy to put us into a Deluxe Double Double. This room was exactly what we needed, it was spacious large and had room to move along side all of our luggage. The extra double bed also was good to have just to sit on and work on stuff from home, or watch TV while my husband slept on the other bed. The Library Bar and Sky Terrace were a nice addition. The drinks were a little pricey but the vibe was great. Not a large selection of drinks but something for everyone I would say. We actually had a few friends over and sat on the Sky Terrace and drank the afternoon away. The things I would say need a little work and TLC would be the hallways, they were painted a lime green I would say quite a while ago, and now it just looks dirty and dated. Also as we stayed around 6 nights there was a plastic serving tray and some glasses in the hallway for several days in the same spot. Also once I walked out and saw that someone had left a toilet plunger in the middle of the hallway. This was quite gross. Another thing would be the gym. As even though it had some OK equipment it was just hot and lifeless. It needs some sort of air flow in there as it is in the basement of the hotel, with no windows. It felt like it had no air condition either. The whole gym just was uninspiring. A suggestion would be a mural on one wall to liven the place up and even just some fans. All in all the hotel worked well for us, it gave us the ability to walk to most things or catch a small cab or Uber ride. They also made it so easy when leaving by having your bill under your door and all you do is leave. They have your credit card and if there are any queries they are there to help. at 358D W |
