The Broad MuseumI felt SO lucky to be able to visit The Broad while in LA. A contemporary Art Museum in Downtown LA, which is named after Philanthropist Eli Broad who financed the $140 Million building. What thrilled me most was seeing such iconic artworks by the likes of Roy Lichtenstein Andy Warhol Jeff Koons Keith Haring and Jean-Michael Basquat just to name a few. The museum its actually free to visit, though I do suggest to book your tickets online, so you can scoot to the front when arriving. Hosting, exhibitions that change often, to events and tours it is an ever changing home for art. It is a must do if you are a fan of art. You are also able to take photos of what you see which is rare with so many galleries these days. Be ready to see some of the most well known art out there. Also check out the gift store the you are there, they have some amazing items for purchase including limited edition artist items.

Getty VillaWe were so lucky to be able to visit the beautiful Getty Villa while we visiting Los Angeles. A homage to ancient Greece and Rome, this place is a Instagramers dream! With gorgeous artworks, stunning manicured gardens and sculptures featured within the Villa, you will feel relaxed and envious that can't move in. Home to the J. Paul Getty Museum’s antiquities collection, the museum shows art that spans the 7,000 years from the end of the Stone Age to the fall of the Roman empire. Located close to both Malibu and Santa Monica you can visit while seeing either beach. Open 10-5 daily (except Tuesdays) admission is free! There is parking available as well as a gift shop and cafe. We were completely spoilt, with a degustation dinner by Paperbark Restaurant on the beach front, of the beautiful Kewarra Beach Resort.
The resort itself is a as stunning beach side resort, that also offers the feel of the rain forest around you. The dinner was beautifully decorated by local events business, North Hampton Events, which really completed the amazingness of the night. The food itself was mind blowing. The flavours and combinations of ingredients were second to none. I have only ever been as spoilt once like this in my life as a vegetarian. The chef completely nailed the brief! We were also thrilled to taste some gorgeous wines, paired with the meals from around the world. The service was impeccable, the food incredible and the ambience pure perfection. It could not of been a more perfect night with friends. If your in town, stay at the resort, if you are already somewhere else, then visit the restaurant it is well worth it. https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowUserReviews-g1159373-d2426177-r669095869-Paperbark_Restaurant-Kewarra_Beach_Cairns_Region_Queensland.html# Wow! What a place. With vibes like the W hotel chains, views and weather like the tropics you expect and close to the city so you can shop and entertain yourself. It truly is a great addition to Cairns. The Riley, a Crystalbrook Collection Resort is the newest hotel in town. It is funky, stylish and somewhere people, WANT to be. Our room (in the tower) gave us gorgeous views of the ocean, the mountains and some of the city itself. The beds are divinely comfortable, the lighting, air conditioning and amenities, luxurious. The bathroom offers a huge rainforest shower with delicious personal products. The Riley also provides you with an extensive list of free movies to watch, excellent wifi and also an Apple Ipad control centre. Wake up to a Nespresso pod style coffee before heading down to breakfast at the choice of cafes right on your door step. The mini bar options are insane! You can also slip into one of their unique bath robes to go down to the pool, or just chill in your room. The gym is not extensive but offers enough to get your daily workout done and dusted. You can also do a early morning yoga class on selected days, right by the pool side. They have the gorgeous Eleme spa, right by the poolside and gym, so you can have a massage or a beauty treatment, not far from your room. The pool area is really gorgeous and is the centrepiece of the whole resort. Though I found it really weird that they allow the public to use the pool also. This I found weird, as you would see people coming in and out all day, collecting hotel towels never to be returned and people just mingling about. The deal is they are suppose to be utilising the venues within the hotel, but they aren't. There is also the three venues you can eat and drink at within the hotel, (will be reviewed individually). Rocco a roof top bar with gorgeous views, Paper Crane a great place for dinner or breakfast buffet and Greenfields another great breakfast destination. The hotel is super chic! And it really is what was needed in Cairns. Hopefully it will now influence what is done there, as if it does it will be the next hot location for travellers. If you are in this area you NEED to stay here. It really is special. We got the opportunity to stay recently at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Port Douglas which was a gorgeous experience.
The hotel is based in the gorgeous tropical Port Douglas less than an hour North of Cairns in North Queensland, Australia. It was developed by businessman Christopher Skase in 1987. It also went through a $43 million redevelopment in 2016. The resort is a great mix of it's original 80's style mixed with a modern feel. It still have a glamorous feel. The hotel is part of the Marriott Bonvoy group so you can earn points by staying. The staff (especially the wonderful Chrissy) ensured our stay was going to be special. The resort offers a huge 147ha of tropical gardens, 2ha of saltwater lagoon pools and an 18-hole golf course, right on the edge of the famous, 4 mile beach. We were spoilt with a swim up entry room, where we could take a dip anytime, straight from our balcony. There is also great Wifi internet, to stay in touch with the rest of the world. Our room was large, comfortable, with a large expansive bathroom, great air condition and a good selection of mini bar offerings and a pod style coffee machine. It is the style of room that when you have unpacked your bags you don't feel closed in and still have so much space to enjoy your stay. The drinks and nibbles around the pool from the swim up Lagoons Pool Bar, ensure a fabulous day in the sun. The resort also offers several other restaurants and bars to tantalise the tastebuds including the newly renovated Daintree Bar and Harrison by Spencer Patrick. There is a gym, though it is a fair walk across the main road to the country club, across from the resort. This would be enough to put someone off a work out, though I saw it as a daily challenge. The Sheraton is also very close to the centre of Port Douglas which offers many more places to eat, dine, drink and find an adventure. The resort is so close to the UNESCO world heritage listed treasures, The Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. The resort also has incredible facilities for meetings or wedding/events, with 18 indoor and outdoor event spaces. All in all the resort is the type of place you can go to REALLY relax. If you don't want to leave you don't have to. If you want to explore, you're close enough to find a multitude of things to do with many varying adventure companies. Definitely the place to be if your thinking of taking a trip to the glorious Port Douglas or Cairns area. |
